Center of Biomass and Renewable Energy (C-BIORE) is a research center at Diponegoro University that focuses on education, research, and community service activities in the fields of biomass and renewable energy. Diponegoro University has an exceptional commitment to bioscience and engineering. At the interface of these disciplines, bioprocess engineering has the potential to provide new solutions for biotechnology and medicine. Bioprocess engineering requires a multi-disciplinary approach; a synergy of chemical engineering, biochemistry and biotechnology. The C-BIORE group develops bioprocess technology for converting biomass to bioenergy as well as healthy food ingredients, biopolymers, pharmaceuticals, and biopesticides. The challenge is to make high-quality products in a sustainable and economic way, to avoid overexploitation of natural resources and the environment and maximize the chances of utilization by existing and new biotech companies. Generally, C-BIORE aims to harness a combination of these technologies to develop new and innovative bioprocess applications. We value active collaboration with our national and international partners. We aim to work with them to create novel.

C-BIORE UNDIP activities span a vast array of scientific and technological fields. There are four research focuses of C-BIORE UNDIP: (i) Bioprocess and Biorefinery, (ii) Environmental Biotechnology, (iii) Biomass Resources and Conversion, and (iv) Waste and Pollution Management. There are research experts in each discipline, as well as numerous students engaged in biomass and renewable energy-based activities. To support its activities, C-BIORE UNDIP is also outfitted with the biomass and bioenergy production, including a tubular microalgae photobioreactor, spray dryer for biomass powdering process, UV-Ozone reactor, microbial fuel cell reactor, biodiesel reactor, and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Researchers at C-BIORE have produced a number of national and international publications as a product of their participation in not only education and research, but also social and community service. C-BIORE UNDIP thinks an interdisciplinary approach is required to address the community’s increasingly complex concerns.
